WiFi at McDonalds

I have now been a long time user of Wifi in the wild and note the many ways that it is applied.  In some cases simply, in other places logging you out periodically to keep the traffic down.   How they respond to differing operating systems is always interesting.   Here is a guide for Mac vs PC users. The details for the non technically adept are insufficient.  The comments, as usual, descend into the usual Mac v PC bickering.    Can we ultimately get a standard?
