Google+ Again

Just had need to go back and use Google+ again.  Had been noticing a number of things written about its demise.  Also this article warning it was not quite dead yet.  Agree with some of the points about its simplicity has value.   I also use Facebook relatively infrequently, and I find that its complexity has grown to the point that it is hard to re-learn when re-visited.  Google+ is fairly easy to use when needed.   But can it compete with Facebook and Twitter with critical mass?  Or is it just for specialist groups?
