What Does the Physical Internet look Like?

Not what does it looks like schematically, fascinating as well, but what does the wiring look like?  An article in the Atlantic shows some pictures.  Having had access to some associated secure wiring cabinets in the early days and once having been shown a room near San Diego, where the wires and links assembled to patch into a cable that then led across the Pacific Ocean.  It all can look very messy, but it perhaps remarkably works.   In part by its very redundant packet switching design.
