State of Self Checkout

Some retailers have removed the systems.  Was an early look at how the average person interacted directly with a complex retail system.  Looked at a half dozen systems as they progressed. After that, and the emergence of smartphones,  came the concept of consumers scanning items in the aisle to speed the process.  Completely automating the checkout system, with the aid of embedded RFID chips, was also examined.  The work continues.
