I was just pointed to Shoshanna Zuboff's latest Book: The Age of Surveillance Capitalism:
Our company had been interviewed for her 1988 book: In the Age of the Smart Machine: The Future of Work and Power. as we ramped up our AI efforts. It had a similar take, but was before tech companies had become powerful. And it bought much of the hype of these times in believing how powerful AI was. Although we attempted to push back on that, it was not heard. Looking at that past book now, its a weak look at the reality of the times.
A quick scan of reviews of writing about the latest book would seem, as the title suggests, suggests that Google and other Tech giants are taking over capitalism via surveillance, to the detriment of all. But now the power is available to many more than it was then. If I read it, mention talk about it some more.
