Is there real evidence for clear differences in learning styles? I know many people who say they are visual rather than textual learners, is that a reasonable distinction? More here.

Hi Franz,
Learning styles were very popular in the early 90s and that is where I cut my research teeth. They went out of favor, and recently seem to be popping up again. I have concluded that learning styles are often misunderstood - some people come to conclusions about what they are/aren't without reading the original literature. In addition, there are many delineations of learning styles - they vary quite a bit and reflect who developed them and the theoretical background they came out of. Thus the intended application of learning style inventories varies widely. The original post had an important point in alluding to the potential usefulness of understanding one's own (and one's colleagues, clients) learning style preferences and how that leads to your (their) apparent strengths, weaknesses, and perceptions.
