Predictive is Smarter
Writes Christopher Conradi in Smarter Planet. Predictive maintenance is nothing new. We have done it in manufacturing for many years. What is new is the ability to do the prediction better. Sensors linked to databases of similar machines under similar conditions. Real time sensors that can sense the changes that indicate the need for adjustment, lubrication or replacement. Rule bases that can embody deep maintenance expertise. Statistical alerts can let us know well before the disastrous breakdown. We pioneered mathematical methods for high speed diaper lines that predicted very rare 'black swan' events. We are living in a much smarter planet today.
