Goals, Art and Engagement of Visualization

I was struck by the question:  " ,,, Is the ultimate goal (of data visualization) communication, or engagement? ... " .  My answer is that it should be clear communication that engages.  Depending on how important the engagement is, it can take varying amounts of effort and artistic skill. But at very least we should be thinking about how that engagement can be maximized with art and interaction.   And including art means there will be a critical look at the results as well.  As described: In CWorld:
