I was just sent a message warning me that the Google Knol system will be retired by April 30. We experimented with it in the enterprise in 2007, thinking about the potential of using it internally as an architecture for a collaborative knowledge management system. If you have authored any Knols you can download them until October to alternative venues.
In their FAQ they mention alternatives for the system, but surprising to me there is no mention of the Wikipedia. They have worked with Annotum, a WordPress based, open source platform, which I have not heard of, as an alternative repository.
