Recognizing Good Network Design

In the Cisco Blog:  Not supply chain networks, which I thought at first, but computer networks.  Not usually my world, but had some interesting design ideas.  I always liked flow models.  Are there some universal network design fundamentals in flow networks of all kinds?  I think so.
