Asymmetric Following
O'Reilly on asymmetric following. This is an aspect of social media I had been thinking about since being introduced to them. He has some excellent points here. Complete symmetry is unscalable. You cannot effectively experience it all. Very selective interaction is key. Yet the promoters of these systems use numeric counts of friends and followers to drive their use and lead to their marketable models.
