Very Distant RFID Tag Reads
Some companies are reporting the ability to read passive RFID tags at very long distances, up to one thousand feet. This will start to make it unnecessary to bring the tags on products, pallets or cases to the readers. Tagged objects could then be read from a distance. This may also cause increased concern about privacy issues, since short read distances for passive tags were seen as a protective characteristic. Long read distances may also increase security by allowing distant kill instructions to tags.
