From HBR, Can knowledge hurt innovation?' ... A meeting I had recently with some folks at Gillette highlighted an important issue facing the would-be innovator — the "curse of knowledge." ... '. Intriguing thought, but I don't like it.
Franz, this is a mistake that I make all the time and perhaps it is a reflection on self esteem. I have assumed that if I know it so does anyone else in a similar position and then find out that I am very wrong. This has happened many times over in the classroom. Example: I am teaching a basic Excel class to people who use Excel and after class they come up to thank me for what they have learned and I am amazed.
