Data Related Research in FlipBoard

Colleague Walter Riker has set up a flipboard site called 'Data Related Research'.  In part to test the reach of Flipboard.  My blog is also being mirrored on Flipboard.  Let me know if you want access or have other ideas about using the venue.

Read Me: I am a Curator too

I have been playing with Flipboard for some time.  On the iPhone and Pad. A very nice, image-oriented way to organize and deliver information.  A more sophisticated RSS feed.  I just saw a good discussion and video about the intent of the Flipboard service, which made a big deal about how everyone can be a curator there.  Their newest version allows you to create slick magazine-like creations.  This struck me as what I have been doing here for ten years publicly, and three years privately before that.  I am primarily a curator of a number of topics that support by skills.  Essentially what is now called business analytics.  Most of what I do is curate essential information that relates to the work I do. I save the bulk of my applied creativity for actual paying projects.  This blog also forms a repository for my knowledge and the knowledge of my collaborators.  I often use it as a memory of my past work.  Read it and you will get an idea of what interests me.  You can read me on Flipboard by copying the URL of this site there.

Want to use my skills?  Work with me?  Have an idea you want promoted here? Or collaborate with me by writing an interesting post?  Contact me at the URL embedded in the left hand column.

Thanks,

Franz

T Commerce Interfaces

Thought about this while slipping through Flipboard on an iPad.   A completely configurable magazine and Reader that emphasizes images.  Very addictive.   I have added this blog to it, so I can see everything in a new enhanced magazine like light.   Just a few ads now, but I can see this changing very rapidly.    But as E-Commerce Times points out: " ... The interface of a tablet is different than that of a desktop site. On a tablet, one doesn't track clicks and mouse trails, but instead must focus on "smudges and swipes." Multitouch functionality should be integrated into the site in appropriate areas, including 360-degree product photography spins and swiping through long product lists ... ".    So a changed UI data gathering method will be required, and I think it can be used very soon.

Brilliance by Fulcruum

Seen at the recent Continuous Web meetings: A new online magazine by Fulcruum Publishing called Brilliance.  The Premiere issue of June 1 is called: Escaping the Echo Chamber of Noise and Nonsense.  Articles include: Why Being an Addictive Brand isn't an Option and Sweet Symbiosis of Creativity and Health.  Downloadable from their site as a PDF, I viewed it from iBooks on an iPad horizontally.  They said it can be viewed in other formats like Flipboard.

Graphically very well designed, though I would have preferred the text size to be larger in default. This kind of online magazine has no embedded links, and links are something I prefer in anything online.  I know that it is often seen as disruptive to an article to have links, but if I am on the web I want the richness of that context.  The articles I have read so far are well written, I look forward to more.

Fulcruum positions themselves as " .... a boutique publishing company that serves career renegades like us. Our mission is to help our fellow rebels make the exhilarating transition from desk jockey to promising writer / self-publisher as we did. In essence, we are your competitive advantage - a devoted partner that demystifies the self-publishing process and manages its execution hassle-free ... "
