Another Blogging Note

Some of the the changes in this blog require me to repeat some rules.
Plain text mean I am the author, unless quoted otherwise, for special cases like multiple authors.

Italic text means it is a quote.  Almost always with an author attribution.   Dots .... indicate skipped text, mostly to shorten it.   Quoted text will almost always include a link to any part I had access to.  but sometimes those links may have gone stale. 

I welcome comments, but I have to approve them,  but they have to add to the blog entry itself, not just be advertising.   Similarly with visiting posts, which I do sometimes.   Contact me   ...

Blogging Note

I am being forced by Google into using the latest version of Blogger now. And it has led me into an increase of errors.  And more editing.   I will fix them as I see them.   If you notice something that I have missed, and is important to you,  inform me and I will correct.

Blogger Being Updated

I have been alerted that the underlying Blogging capability here will be updated by the end of June.  A quick test seems to show that no problems should occur, but it's possible attached resources will change.   Could cause display changes.   If you see anything amiss, inform me via the email on this page.   The plan is to move ahead seamlessly.

Retagging

Retagging

This blog contains topic tags at the end of each post.   I use these to connect topics and posts for my own research and consulting.     These tags do evolve.  Names change, new ideas emerge, some topics split up, old tag names take on new meaning.  Emergent stuff changes.

Recently I had to edit the connections of a number of AI-related tags for specific projects.   I do this on an as-needed basis.  Sometimes on request, sometimes because I just see the need.   So I cannot assure you that especially older tags are appropriate.   Be aware,  ask if you want a clarification.

Blogging Notes

Quotes in this blog are in italics or quote marks.  Non italics were written by me.   If you want to unquote something let me know.   Links will sometimes not work over time,  I will selectively repair or remove them if I find them or you inform me.  Depending on their importance or age. 

I usually identify non-trivial updates, also depending on their importance.   Also note the dates of posts,  they can become irrelevant over time.  Use the comments section,  I reserve all editorial rights.

Observations on the Blog

It was observed to me that this blog is observational rather than original, and that is true.  Most posts in its long (18K posts and 2 million reads)  history quote some external source, and then comment on their relevance in current and future technical application.   I will post any comments that are not merely advertising.

That all based on my many year experience in enterprise, academia and consulting.     Posts can be seen as a track through my current work and interests.  I use it as a record of my own investigations.    Activity has often led to new conversations, interests and work.

Google Plus is Going and Soon will be Gone

You will note that the G+ option for forwarding these posts is gone.  I did not do this, Google did,  and it is completely removing the system called Google Plus , and will soon remove all the posts that were ever done with it, many millions I am sure.  That starts in April.  I know people that used it heavily, but I never did.   I used and still do use Twitter for the same purposes.   Gives you pause about the permanence of all this.  For a while the US Library of Congress was archiving all tweets, but then gave up on that, becoming more selective.  You can archive your own G+ scribblings for a while.  And there is still the Internet Archive, which is still humming along.

Blog Statistics Update

I comment on this blog's milestones from time to time.  Now it has been around in this form since 2005.  It existed in previous internal enterprise versions since 2002.   It has recorded 17,159 posts, and over 2 million hits.

Tags in this Blog

This blog contains tags at the end of each post which lead to related posts.   I do go back selectively and update these tags, especially as they relate to my current research, interests or work. The tags can't be complete,  in some cases the tag topic may not exist until much later.     For example a company that is later formed to address some new technology.  This blog is for my own and client reference,  but if you have any suggestions pass then along in a comment or email.  I am on Linkedin and will respond there too.   - FAD

On Embedded Blog Links

I was reminded by a recent query that links that are embedded in posts in this blog may not always work. The history of this blog goes back to 2005, and so especially older post links may have gone stale.  Sometimes I fix these if informed of them, sometimes not.  Sometimes you can search based on the original link title.   I also can't ensure that a link has not since gone behind a paywall.  My apologies.  I use this blog as a personal resource,  so its useful to have selective research area links up to date.

All my comments are my own,  you can assume they are reflective of my work and interest.  All confidential information remains confidential, all my sources are public.

I indicate all of my considerable quotes.  If at all possible I provide a link to the full document involved.   Quotes are usually quoted and in italics  " .... like this snippet .... "

Although I often supply links, I cannot guarantee they will still be live when you click on them.   I will sometimes repair broken links I discover.  But the sources can be lost forever.  Refer to the Internet Archive for possible sources.

Infrastructure of Social Media

Anil Dash on what I would call a rough classification of the infrastructure of social media. Disagree with some of it, like analytics, but its a reasonable take.  Talks about what has been lost,  embedded in other things, and taken over by giants.   Having been involved with this world from the beginning its a great reminder of what was.  Less so, architecture or the specifics of what could be.

Fintech Evolves, and this Blog Does too.

I just noticed that the term Fintech had never been used in this blog before this year.  So is it that a new term?  I have just updated the text tags for Fintech to point to related articles.   Which points to another way to explore this blog.  You can search for words or phrases in quotes, at the upper left of the blog.  Or you can search by tag at the bottom of each post.  Most posts have been tagged.

I frequently update tags. Such as the newly discovered Fintech. without indicating the update.   If I update the body of a blog I will usually indicate the update with an edit.  Links may go out of date, and I will update them when discovered.

Meanwhile I see that Fintech has been used since at least the 90's, at first as the name of a group, and continues to evolve.
