Who is Searching Whom?
George Dyson, science historian and brother of writer Esther and physicist Freeman was the subject of the remarkable bio: 'The Starship and the Canoe'. In 1997 he wrote 'Darwin Among the Machines: the Evolution of Global Intelligence' which suggests that the Internet is a sentient, living being. He has written a short story now on The Edge that does a good job of addressing the idea of machine intelligence.
