Ethereum Mining Going Away

As I understand it, this seems like a very big deal.  Miners out of work.  Will this decrease its security?

Ethereum Mining Is Going Away

In Bloomberg:  Olga Kharif; David Pan, June 16, 2022

Ethereum mining could end soon due to "the Merge," leaving as many as 1 million miners out of a source of income. The Merge (expected to occur in August, though it has been pushed back several times already) involves a shift from the proof-of-work model, which uses a significant amount of computing power and energy, to the proof-of-stake model to record transactions. The alternative model will slash the Ethereum network’s power consumption by about 99%, but also will put miners out of work. Following the Merge, some Ethereum miners plan to mine other coins that require graphics processing units, like Ethereum Classic or Ravencoin, or to use their equipment for rendering (an aspect of digital video production) or machine learning tasks.  .... SingularityNET Switches to Cardano

Had not examined the relationship here, worth an a deeper look.  AGI progress is suggested.

Full-stack AI solution SingularityNET is switching the Ethereum blockchain for peer-reviewed rival Cardano.   By Ryan Daws | October 1, 2020 | TechForge Media

SingularityNET is a decentralised AI marketplace which has the ultimate goal of forming the basis for the emergence of the world’s first true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). One of the brightest and most respected minds in AI leads the SingularityNET project, Dr Ben Goertzel.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Goertzel

“Current speed and cost issues with the Ethereum blockchain have increased the urgency of exploring alternatives for SingluarityNET’s blockchain underpinning,” says Goertzel.

“The ambitious Ethereum 2.0 design holds promise but the timing of rollout of different aspects of this next-generation Ethereum remains unclear, along with many of the practical particulars.“ SingularityNET claims that Cardano has now reached a level of maturity which makes it possible to port such a complex project to the new blockchain. Back in August, Goertzel gave a talk at the Cardano Summit on why functional programming – enabled by Cardano’s Haskell and new Plutus languages – is invaluable for blockchain-based AI:... '

Chrome Extension for Browsing Etherium

Unusual application for browser understanding of Etherium blockchain.

Unstoppable Domains Chrome Extension Lets Users Browse Etherium-Based Sites

Unstoppable Domains, a censorship-resistant web developer, has released a Google Chrome extension in its bid to open up web 3.0.

The extension will give users access to .crypto domain names directly from the Chrome browser, currently the most-used web browser. Developed by Unstoppable Domains, .crypto domains are smart contracts on the Ethereum network, meaning to take down a site an attacker would have to take down the overall network.

The new tool closely follows Unstoppable Domains’ eponymous browser launch, unveiled at the ETHDenver conference in late February.  ... "
