Electrolux Allies with Google in the Smart Home

Smart homes move forward, the two major platforms continue to expand.    Now Swedish maker Electrolux is embedding assistants.   Many makers in the space are including both of the biggest home platforms, and even a hint they are working further with Amazon Alexa.

Electrolux continues to shape the future of connected living by partnering with Google’s voice activated speaker Google Home, powered by the Google Assistant, with both its Frigidaire Cool ConnectTM Air Conditioners and the Anova Precision Cooker being integrated into the new platform.

Frigidaire and Anova are two of just 12 brands – and Electrolux the first white goods company – to be announced as partners to Google Home which launched last November in the US.

Electrolux has worked actively with over 300 brands to unlock the huge potential of the Internet of Things market through the Open Connectivity Foundation so that companies and brands can create products that work seamlessly together. Now Electrolux is expanding this work through partnerships with some of the largest ecosystems including Google and Amazon to create new experiences for the consumer through voice and Artificial Intelligence. ... Google Home Links with GE, Electrolux Appliances

Not unexpected,  assistants interacting with common appliances.  Rather than build your own smarts, make you appliances work with others.   Back to creating and adding to existing infrastructures in the smart home.

GE and Electrolux kitchen appliances get helpful with Google Assistant support in Digitaltrends.
We could all use an assistant in the kitchen. While an actual helping hand might be a little too much to ask for, appliance makers GE and Electrolux are looking to help keep your hands free with the introduction of voice-command features that will integrate with Google Assistant.

According to GE, the company’s full line of Wi-Fi Connect appliances will welcome Google Assistant support in the future. That will make it easier for you to communicate with your internet-connected devices through Google’s voice-powered assistant service. The new support will simplify the command process, allowing you to say things like, “Hey, Google, preheat the oven to 425 degrees” and trust that the A.I. will take care of the task for you without requiring any additional input. .... "

Open Innovation at Electrolux

Open Innovation at Electrolux. Appliance manufacturer we worked with for a while.  The how is always interesting, but also the kinds of application being addressed:  " ....   she presented several Electrolux open innovation success stories, including one of a company that approached the multinational offering a system to automatically calibrate assembly lines.  They didn’t want any money, but were looking for partners to help them test their solution and share risks.  Today, that company is a trusted supplier. ... " 

AllJoyn in New Windows 10

" ... Microsoft announced last November Windows 10 would pack a technology called AllJoyn. An open source framework that encourages devices to be interoperable, AllJoyn was developed by the AllSeen Alliance, a group of more than 150 companies including the likes of Electrolux, Honeywell, LG, and Qualcomm that have banded together to make an open standard for Internet of Things (IoT) devices to speak to each other.

“AllJoyn technology is like dial-tone for things,” says Philip DesAutels, a senior director of IoT at The Linux Foundation. What he means is this new protocol harkens back to how when you bought something to plug into your home’s phone jack — an answering machine, a cordless phone, a fax — it would just work. The idea behind AllJoyn is that whatever smart home products you buy, no matter the manufacturer or which wireless method they use to connect, when they get plugged in, they are detected and connected to all the other AllJoyn devices on the network. ... " 

Auto Focus Oven

When I worked with home innovation applications, I recall that the idea of mixing sensors and focused energy was discussed as feasible during a visit to Microsoft's future home. Now Electrolux has come out with an oven that will set it self. Not for sale as yet.
